Expanding Our Stories: A New Resource
The Field & Shutter Press gains a new resource to bring its readers more expansive environmental news coverage in the Halton Region.
Howdy everyone,
Greg here.
My goal with The Field & Shutter Press is to bring you coverage of all things environmental in Halton Region. As the only journalist currently, there are simply too many things for me to cover alone. That's why I'm happy to announce that we are now participating in the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI).
This program, funded by the federal government and administered by News Media Canada/The Canadian Press, helps ensure that quality local reporting gets the widest possible distribution. It allows publications like ours to access articles produced under the program, helping us fill gaps in our coverage, while expanding the reach of these stories.
Before I dive into an investigation or feature on a topic, I believe it's my job to give you, the reader, a clear understanding of what's going on first. You've seen this in practice with my coverage of Bill 5 or the Liberty Village coyote conflict. Articles from the LJI will allow me to provide that important background information on issues I wouldn't otherwise be able to cover in a timely manner. This allows me to focus on the investigations and in-depth reporting you've come to expect.
The goal is to supplement, not aggregate. You can expect to see one or two stories each month from this initiative, supplementing my own independent coverage.
Thank you all for your support. It is greatly appreciated, and I hope to continue bringing important environmental issues into the public light.
Until the next post,
— Greg
