ACTON, ON – Acton residents are invited to help shape a greener future through the new sustainable neighbourhood action plan (SNAP).
The Acton SNAP is designed to make the community resilient to climate change and improve the health of Black Creek, Fairy Lake and nearby neighbourhoods.
It is a part of the Fairy Lake revival initiative and builds on the recommendations from Credit Valley Conservation’s Black Creek subwatershed study and Halton Region’s total phosphorus offset strategy for the Acton Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Funded by Halton Region and led by CVC in collaboration with the Town of Halton Hills, community leaders and residents, the plan will identify local priorities and key projects that support a shared vision for Acton.
In a statement, Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor said she’s “delighted that Credit Valley Conservation outdoor education staff will be on the ground in Acton to help residents.”
Regional Chair Gary Carr said the initiative reflects a shared responsibility to protect natural resources.
“Protecting our environment is a shared responsibility and the development of this plan in alignment with other strategic projects … will support a sustainable community for years to come,” he said.
The Acton SNAP is the fourth of its kind in the Credit River Watershed and the second in Halton Hills, following the Hungry Hollow SNAP in Georgetown.
Alongside the neighbourhood initiatives, CVC will also offer programs tailored for rural residential and agricultural properties.
Residents within or near the SNAP boundary can share feedback through a community survey open until Oct. 3 on the Let’s Talk Halton Hills website.
Participants will be entered into a prize draw. Full contest rules can be found on the contest’s webpage.
A public open house will take place on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Acton branch of the Halton Hills Public Library (17 River St., Acton).
The event offers an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide input.
Registration is available on the CVC’s website.
