OCTOBER IN REVIEW
Howdy everyone, and happy Halloween!
This time last year, I shared an article I wrote for The Narwhal asking: “Does Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights still have teeth?”
As it turns out, history has a funny way of repeating itself. On the same day, exactly one year later, I published another article, this time examining how the Ford government is proposing to further weaken the Environmental Bill of Rights through its omnibus Bill 140.
If you’re interested, you can find the article below in this month’s issue!
As October draws to a close and the leaves continue to fall from the trees, Ontario’s red squirrels are hard at work preparing for winter. This month, I’ve pulled an article from the archives to give you a little insight into what these busy little creatures are up to at this time of year.
For those more interested in exploring fall colours, I’ve also pulled another piece from the archives: a photo essay exploring Halton’s autumn colours through the years.
Lastly, an 800-meter boardwalk has reopened at Crawford Lake, one of Ontario’s rarest lakes and part of Conservation Halton. What makes the lake so unusual is that it’s meromictic, meaning its waters don’t mix.
Want to learn more? You can read all about the reopened boardwalk and what makes Crawford Lake so unique in the article below
Until the next one,

Ford government to weaken Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights
During the first day back of the fall session at Queen’s Park, October 27, the Ford government introduced Bill 140, the Building Ontario Faster Act, an omnibus bill which proposes major changes to Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR).
The boardwalk has reopened at one of Ontario’s rarest lakes
A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially unveiled Crawford Lake’s reconstructed 800-meter boardwalk on September 4, restoring access to scenic views of the historically significant lake. New interpretive signage was installed around the lake a few weeks later on September 24.
