New Legislation, Chapter and Season! June 2025
Featured is an exclusive interview with the Green Party leader on the contentious Bill 5, alongside on-the-ground reporting from recent protests at Queen's Park.
MONTH IN REVIEW
Howdy everyone, I hope you have all been doing well.
Welcome to summer!
This is the first official issue under our new name, “The Field & Shutter Press,” as we move away from the previous name of “Random Photo Adventure Chronicles.” For more information on the name change, you can click here.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my publication along the way; it is greatly appreciated.
The focus of this month’s coverage is on the recently passed Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025. The legislation allows the Ontario Government to create “special economic zones” that can be exempt from both Ontario’s provincial laws and municipal Laws. This means that laws such as health and safety regulations, environmental regulations, and local construction noise bylaws can be bypassed in the name of economic growth, according to the Doug Ford government.
In addition to field coverage of protests against Bill 5, I also had the opportunity to interview the Green Party Leader, Mike Schreiner, for his thoughts on the newly passed legislation.
Escaping the City
This month, as an early 30th birthday gift from my lovely girlfriend, Hayley, I travelled to Arrowhead Provincial Park to explore and relax. We had a great trip, and a very unexpected highlight. Hayley likes moths, so much so that she has a tattoo of a Luna Moth on her leg. On our first nighttime outing to the comfort station, we stumbled across an unexpected frenzy. At least a hundred moths were flying around the lamp posts around the comfort station.
I exited the comfort station and strolled over to a lamp post to see what moths were about. To my surprise, a Luna Moth had landed and was hanging around the bottom of the lamp post. I quickly took some photos to show Hayley in case it flew off, but to my surprise, it just sat there, perfectly still, until Hayley came out, and I showed her the Luna Moth.
Overall, it was an enjoyable and relaxing time for both of us, and I hope to share the whole experience soon in an article!
Until the next issue!
-Greg
